We hope these email tips and online topics are helping you to understand all canines and making it easier for you to teach your puppy home manners.  There is never a good reason to lose your temper when teaching your puppy.  Just think about your favorite teacher in school.  Didn't you learn better when you felt encouraged and successful? 

A study - by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Humane Society of the United States - analyzed dog bite statistics over a 20 year period. Here are a few results:

P4.5 Mil dog bites are reported annually (@ 2% of the American population) most never reported to the authorities.

PDogs between 1 and 5 years of age bite more than dogs older than 6 years old. Male dogs bite the most.

PThe CDC documents chained dogs 2.8 times more likely to bite than an unchained dog. 

PCanines that are NOT spayed or neutered are 3 times more likely to bite.

P10 to 20 people die every year in the US as a result of dog bites with the majority of victims - by far - being children. Dog bites are the greatest public health threat in the United States.

PUnwanted pet behavior leads to more death in pets than all health threats combined. Behavior problems are the leading cause of pet neglect, abuse, surrender, and euthanasia.
