Getting Started Day Thirteen - Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Puppies and children can be a great mix as long as you provide 100% supervision and ongoing instruction to both.  Do not allow mistakes to happen when you are NOT there. Here are common mistakes people make with children and dogs.

1.  They allow rough play and games such as tug-of-war before the puppy is trained.

2.  They allow rough handling of the puppy, shrieking and running around, or surprising the puppy and grabbing it too tightly without  "proofing" the dog against aggression to children and food bowl aggression.

3.  They don't involve the children in training the dog or teach them appropriate games to play with the dog.
