Meet a Veterinary Behavior Technician (VBT)

Kristen White, CVT

Veterinary Services Director, (VBT) Team Leader

Kristen and a couple of her
well-behaved household members

Kristen is a past President for the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.

She
has been working in the veterinary field for the past 19 years, the last 15 of which have been at the Animal and Bird Hospital of Clearwater in Florida.

In 2000, she went back to school to obtain her AS in veterinary technology at St. Petersburg College. Kristen is now the practice manager at the Animal and Bird Hospital. Kristen's love of behavior is evident to her clients and their pets as she teaches puppy classes and assists in the practice behavior cases.

Kristen serves on the advisory board for the veterinary assistant program at Tarpon Springs High School. She has given several lectures there and at other secondary schools about canine behavior and clicker training. She has also spoken to the Suncoast Avian Society about captive bird behavior and clicker training.

In 2004, Kristen attended the 3 day Small Animal Behavior course at University of Georgia. Then in 2005, she attended both the 5 day spring DOGS! Course and the 3 Day Fall Dogs and Cats course at Purdue University.

In 2006, she lectured and offered a wet-lab at the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians/Jefferson College continuing education meeting on puppy classes.

Kristen is working on finishing her bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology at St. Petersburg College and plans to begin teaching the associate level behavior course there next year. She continues to expand her behavior knowledge through CE courses and reading on her own.
