Rolan Tripp, DVM
When listening to Dr. Tripp as a speaker, it is helpful to know his background. At California State University, he was a classical percussion performance music major with a special interest in rock drumming. His minor was philosophy with a special interest in ethics and logic. This logical yet philosophical approach, blended with an affinity for performance, makes his seminars entertaining as well as educational and easy to follow.
While at U.C. Davis veterinary school he served as Class President, Editor of the school paper, and Student Body President. At graduation in 1979, he was awarded the Diamond Award for the greatest contribution to the school as a student.
After graduation he served as the California Veterinary Medical Association Chairman of Membership. He went on to serve as the California Representative for the American Heartworm Society, and President of the Santa Clara Veterinary Medical Association.
In addition to private small animal practice, Dr. Tripp created a video program, "Video Vet." Four production awards led to offers from PBS and Cable Health Network to produce video segments about animals. He also founded "TeleVet," a veterinary telecommunications company.
It was during his tenure with TeleVet that he developed his interest in Animal Behavior. He recognized that most unacceptable pet behavior can be corrected by the owner, if given the correct information. TeleVet became the telecommunications vehicle to distribute current behavior modification techniques to pet owners. In developing this program, Dr. Tripp did extensive research into pet behavior, regularly consulting with leading world authorities to obtain the simplest, most practical techniques available.
Within the field of Animal Behavior, Dr. Tripp wrote extensively including a peer reviewed scientific article, "A Behavioral Approach to Controlling Barking in the Veterinary Hospital." His most recent series of published articles appeared in Veterinary Economics which has the largest veterinary circulation in the world. Through his special interest in puppies, he discovered the majority of problems with dogs could be easily prevented during "puppyhood." Through TeleVet Puppy Training Classes, Dr. Tripp supervised the training of over 2,000 puppies. He is a currently member of the AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA and the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.
As current owner of the La Mirada Animal Hospital, Dr. Tripp supplemented AAHA medical standards by creating, "The Puppy Place!." He now supervises regular Puppy Parties, Puppy Seminars, Puppy Kindergarten Classes, Puppy Day Care, and a Puppy Grooming Program. Because of his interest in cats, his audio cassette, "Inside the Mind and Spirit of Cats" is available to pet owners.
In 1997 he presented a paper at the International Conference on Behavioral Medicine in Birmingham, England, and was invited to speak at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Dr. Tripp currently teaches Applied Animal Behavior at Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Colorado State University Veterinary Schools.
