Meet ABN Founder

Introducing Rolan Tripp, DVM
Founder of AnimalBehavior.Net (ABN)

Prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Rolan Tripp achieved a BA in Music, Percussion Performance with a special focus in rock drumming. His minor was philosophy with a special focus in ethics and logic. This logical yet philosophical approach blended with an affinity for performance, makes Dr. Tripp's writing and speaking style entertaining, educational and easy to follow. Dr. Tripp is a national syndicated columnist for Universal Press.

Since obtaining his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from U.C. Davis in 1979, Dr. Tripp has served as the California Veterinary Medical Association Chairman of Membership, the California Representative for the American Heartworm Society, and President of the Santa Clara Veterinary Medical Association.

In addition to private small animal practice, Dr. Tripp created a video program, "VideoVet." Four production awards led to offers from PBS and Cable Health Network to produce video segments about animals. His interest in animal behavior developed after discovering that behavior is the most common concern for pet owners, and the most common cause of euthanasia in pets. He is a paid content consultant and on-air personality for the Animal Planet Network and can be seen on the shows, "Petsburgh, USA" and "Good Dog U."

While developing a special interest in behavior, Dr. Tripp discovered the majority of problems with dogs could be prevented with "puppyhood" socialization. Dr. Tripp has supervised the training of over 4,000 puppies and done extensive consulting on feline behavior. He is a currently a member of the AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA, Humane Society, Society for Veterinary Medical Ethics, and the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. In 1996 he was the featured speaker at the Animal Behavior Seminar in Tokyo, Japan.

In 1997, he presented a paper at the International Conference on Behavioral Medicine in Birmingham, England, and lectured at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.  He is an Affiliate Professor of Applied Animal Behavior at both Colorado State University Veterinary School and the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Schools.

Dr. Tripp is the principal veterinary consultant to  one of the largest manufacturers of pet products in the world. View more at Petmate

His veterinary practice manual, "Pet Perception Management
" is a guide for veterinarians on how to begin offering behavior services in private practice. Dr. Tripp continues to practice general veterinary medicine, consult with individual pet owners regarding behavior concerns, and write and lecture extensively both nationally and internationally on his special interest, companion animal behavior. He and his wife, Susan are the former owners of VCA La Mirada Animal Hospital. They share a passion to transform the veterinary profession and family relationships with pets through behavior education and services. They work  together on AnimalBehavior.Net and live in La Mirada, CA.

The AnimalBehavior.Net helps transform the general veterinary practice into a Pet Hospital and Behavior Center with Dr. Tripp as their Behavior Associate, providing behavioral diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans for behavior cases, and behavior education to help clients learn how to phase in good behavior and phase out unwanted behaviors, keeping pets happy and well-mannered in the home.
