Basic Elimination Training
If puppy does
eliminate when taken out to the toilet area,
ignore attempts to play, return to confinement.
Reserve play and attention as a
Walk on leash off property to stimulate. Say “Go Potty”
anytime on the walk that the dog was going to eliminate
Link the phrase, with the praise.
“Good Go Potty!”
When increasing indoor freedom after successful elimination in
the toilet area, maintain close supervision, or bell the puppy’s
collar to keep track of its location.
When ready to take the dog out, ask for a SIT, then take it
This teaches the dog to “Signal” its need by sitting.
